Monday, February 8, 2016

Prof. Chris Van de Walle was elected to the National Academy for Engineering (NAE) for his "contributions to the theory of semiconductor interfaces and its impact on optoelectronic devices."

From the NAE website:

Election to the National Academy of Engineering is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer.  Academy membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to "engineering research, practice, or education, including, where appropriate, significant contributions to the engineering literature" and to "the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education."

Prof. Van de Walle will be formally inducted during a ceremony at the NAE’s Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. on October 9, 2016.

The faculty and students of the UCSB Materials Department are grateful for Chris's outstanding contributions to the Department, the College of Engineering, and UCSB.
