Materials Shines at STLE Annual Meeting

The 2024 STLE Annual Meeting & Exhibition took place in Minneapolis, MN, in May, showcasing advancements in tribology and lubrication engineering.

Professor Angela Pitenis was recognized with the Early Career Award – Academic Professional Level for her exceptional contributions to the field. This prestigious award, presented annually to one assistant professor, aims to support young researchers and academic faculty, in line with STLE's mission to innovate, enhance equipment performance, conserve resources, and protect the environment through tribology science. The judging panel, consisting of industry professionals and academics, selects the recipient.

In a competitive student poster competition featuring 22 entries, Katie Shaffer claimed the first-place prize (Platinum Level) with her poster titled "Atomic Force Microscopy of Transfer Film Development". Andrew Rhode and Ahmed Al Kindi received second-place honors (Gold Level) for their posters titled "Sliding on Slide-Ring Gels" and "Bioinspired Lubricity from Surface Gel Layers", respectively. The judging panel comprised scientists from industry and national laboratories, underscoring the event's dedication to fostering academic excellence and industry innovation in tribology.
