Celebration honored the 80th birthday of Prof. Fyl Pincus

A day of celebration to honor the 80th birthday of UCSB Prof. Fyl Pincus was held on Thursday, May 5. Prof. Pincus's birthday celebration consisted of technical presentations from colleagues who hail from near and far. Following the presentations, Prof. Pincus was honored at an afternoon reception. 

Prof. Pincus arrived at UCSB in July of 1985. He holds appointments in the Physics and Materials Departments, and in the  Biomolecular Science and Engineering Program. Prof. Pincus is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and of the American Physical Society (APS). He is the recipient of the High Polymer Physics Prize from APS. Prof. Pincus is the Chair of the Physics Department and acitive in research. His current research interests are associated with biopolymers and bio-membranes, including Coulomb effects in biomolecular assemblies, hydrogen bonding networks, hydrophobic interaction, polar solvents, and polyelectrolyte complexes.
